BEM’s Electronic Whiz from the Isles: Dave Geiss

Dave Geiss brings more to BEM than Jaguar and Rover know-how. We could say he’s a holistic hands-on type for autos, well, let’s make that endowed with super-keen engine sound perceptions that often shames computer diagnostic equipment.

Dave’s other passion, after Jaguars, is that of an audio engineer. Not so long ago, back in the land of technological achievements like Radar and WWII era jets (yes, the Germans stole if from the Brits)Dave invented, patented and later saw used by a Japanese company an electronic crossover for midrange audio. His work allowed for two-speaker systems to deliver the effect of surround sound!

Today, audio engineering is a continuing hobby that keeps Geiss on his toes listening to what sensors and computer monitors can sometimes miss. Dave is to Jags and Rovers what an alternative healer can be to some of us. His diagnostic feats have saved many a customer money and it is in part why Mark Singleton, BEM’s boss, secured him a place “up here,” from Southern California, keeping BEM on the cutting edge of economic care for British automobiles.

Geiss’ Jaguar passion began with his father’s sixties Mark I sedans. Dave recalls being allowed a red Series I for an important date when he was a teenager—he became hooked. When Dave was twelve his dad (a commercial fleet operator) gave him a Mini to reverse engineer, which he did in less than two weeks, tearing it apart followed by reassembly. Treating the “whole car” comes naturally to Dave, in keeping with traditional British engineering traits of ”hands-on” for developments and maintenance.

Dave, with his wife Angela and their two young sons, Charles and Benjamin, now live in Bennett Valley after BEM’s Singleton recruited them from SoCal. Thanks for the addition to the family, Mark. ■
