Few people in Sonoma County know about Cotati Speedway, a flash-in-the-pan auto racing track that lasted only one year. Built in 1921 by Oakland’s Jack Prince Construction Company on 135 acres in the rural town of Cotati, the 1.25-mile banked oval track required 2 million board feet of lumber to finish. Alas, Cotati was too distant from the Bay Area’s major population centers to draw the crowds needed to sustain the track, and it closed in 1922. The track was torn down and its infield oval later became Circle Drive in Rohnert Park’s “C section” neighborhood.
