Autologic 1, our new Rover
diagnostic tool, promises relief for Sonoma County Rover owners
BEM has purchased Autologic 1, a British-made diagnostic tool for Land
Rovers that will form the basis of a new service aimed at Sonoma County
Rover owners.
Autologic I is an improved version of a tool introduced in 1999. It
gives independent repairers an affordable, sophisticated means to
efficiently and inexpensively diagnose late model Rovers that feature such
systems as ABS, SRS, air suspension and remote security.
With
it, repairers can read fault codes, test BECM and ECU inputs and outputs,
and extinguish dash warning lamps. Until now, these capabilities have been
limited almost exclusively to authorized Rover dealers.
“Typically, what will happen is that the battery of a Rover undergoing
repair will lose its charge,” says Mark Singleton, BEM’s managing
director. “This will cause electronic control units to lose their memory
and go to default settings. When the battery is recharged, there’s no way
to reset them.”
To do so, says Singleton, Sonoma County Rover owners have to drive or
tow a car up to 40 miles to an authorized dealer to get this service done.
“There’s no guarantee that the dealer may not take days to perform the
diagnostic, and you will certainly be charged at the full retail rate for
the service.”
In contrast, BEM plans to set up a same-day service at a professional
courtesy rate. “We want auto body shops, and of course our own customers,
to know there is a local, industry-friendly shop that will charge less and
take less time,” he says.
“Local
Rover owners and repairers now have affordable, convenient access to
sophisticated diagnostic capabilities.”
